The Senior Communications Advisor is a key member of the College’s communication team.

Responsibilities

Responsible for developing and implementing communication strategies, this position is the primary staff liaison with members of the media and frequently is cited as the College spokesperson. The Senior Communications Advisor will coordinate a large volume of media inquiries on a variety issues, respond to media inquiries on a daily basis and will be responsible for developing communication plans and accompanying communication materials including media releases, advisories, backgrounders, briefing notes, articles and more. The individual in this role will also monitor trends and emerging issues in the media while identifying opportunities to engage and build relationships with key media contacts.

In monitoring news reports and providing daily summary reports to the College, you will analyse and report on media trends and CPSO media activity. Working in collaboration with staff across the organization the Senior Communications Advisor will develop key messages and provide communications support on current/emerging issues for all areas of the College.

The ability to work in high pressure situations and communicate with poise, professionalism and confidence are essential to this role. This role is ideal for someone looking for an opportunity to employ strategic thinking in an organization committed to public protection.

Qualifications

  • Degree in journalism, communications, marketing or related discipline
  • Exceptional written and verbal communications skills in both French and English
  • 5-7 years’ experience in communications/journalism and/or public relations. Preference may be given to candidates with experience in a health care or the regulatory sectors
  • Proven track record of developing and implementing communications strategies and products
  • Attention to detail
  • Ability to think quickly and develop creative solutions to complex communication issues and present information in user-friendly language
  • Team player, able to work collaboratively within a dynamic team and at all levels of the organization
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to support a variety of tasks and priorities
