Policy Development and Review Process

The College develops policies to address key areas of physician practice, to respond to emerging or existing problems, and to fulfill our statutory mandate to govern the medical profession in the public interest.

All existing policies at the College are reviewed on a regular basis. A regular policy review cycle ensures policies remain relevant, accurate and reflective of current expectations.

At times, Council may choose to convene a Policy Working Group to assist with the development or review process. Working Groups are comprised of both physician and public members of Council, and are typically struck when a policy deals with complex issues.

Council makes decisions at all key stages of the policy development or review process. Council considers, and ultimately approves, all College policies.
