College confirms facts in Dr. James Martin hearing

Dr. James Martin, a physician in London, Ontario, affiliated with the Southern Ontario Fertility Technologies Inc. (S.O.F.T.) clinic, admitted to professional misconduct in that he failed to maintain the standard of practice of the profession at a hearing that took place at the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario on May, 20, 2014.

At the hearing, Dr. Martin admitted to the facts specified in the Agreed Statement of Facts, a summary of which is available on the CPSO website under Doctor Search.

After Dr. Martin’s admission, the Discipline Committee delivered a reprimand and made a number of orders including:

  • Two month suspension to commence on July 1, 2014
  • Ceasing practice of fertility medicine (effective July 1, 2014)
  • Accepting no new patients into his fertility medicine practice (effective immediately)
  • Requiring Dr. Martin to complete a number of educational courses
  • Costs of $40,140.

Dr. Martin waived his right of appeal and had legal representation throughout the process.

Subsequent to the hearing, information was posted on Dr. Martin’s clinic website in which staff at S.O.F.T. solicited support for Dr. Martin.

We urge members of the public to consult the College’s website for accurate information regarding Dr. Martin and his admissions of professional misconduct.

The College is the regulatory body for the medical profession in Ontario, and is entrusted with serving and protecting the public interest.
