Medical Record-Keeping for Physicians

This non-surgical record-keeping course is for family/general practitioners and other physicians who provide primary care, (e.g., internists, paediatricians, psychiatrists, etc.).

For professional and legal reasons, the medical record has taken on increasing importance in the practice of medicine. This course has been developed to describe the different methodologies and formats of good record-keeping, clarify the medico-legal reasons behind it and demonstrate the benefits of good records in the provision of quality care. This course deals primarily with principles of record-keeping pertinent to both electronic and paper records, and less with technology.

The course utilizes real case examples in demonstrating the principles and practice of effective clinical record-keeping.

Approximately three months after the course, the instructor will review files from each physician attending the course to ensure that the materials learned during the course are being incorporated into practice.
