CPSO's role and authority are defined by government legislation and CPSO By-laws

The role of CPSO and its authority and powers are set out in the Regulated Health Professions Act (RHPA), the Health Professions Procedural Code, which is Schedule 2 to the RHPA, and the Medicine Act. In addition, there are regulations made under both the RHPA and the Medicine Act.

CPSO By-laws

Section 94. (1) of the Health Professions Procedural Code provides CPSO's Board of Directors the authority to make by-laws relating to the administrative and internal affairs of CPSO:
