Annual Registration Renewal

Each year, registered physicians are required to submit their renewal application.

When Annual Renewal opens in April, physicians will complete their renewal in the Portal.

2024 Renewal Important Dates

Monday, April 8, 2024 at 9 a.m. EDT:
Log into your Portal account and complete your annual registration renewal survey by clicking “Membership Renewal” in the portal dashboard.

Saturday, June 1, 2024 at 5 p.m. EDT:
The deadline for submitting your completed renewal information and the annual fee is June 1, 2024. There will be a late penalty fee for any fees received after June 1st.

Physicians who have not submitted a completed renewal survey and registration fee by June 1, 2024 will receive a notice of intention to suspend their certificate of registration 60 days after the renewal deadline.

This information is for physicians with one of the following certificates of registration:

  • Independent Practice
  • Restricted (excluding restricted for postgraduate education)
  • Academic Practice

Registration

A physician becomes a registrant of the College when issued a certificate of registration authorizing you to practice medicine in Ontario. To avoid the suspension and expiry of your certificate of registration, you are required to complete the online survey and submit payment annually. Your new registration card and annual fee receipt is available in the Portal on the College’s website.

Every registrant is responsible for ensuring CPSO has a current mailing and email address. You must also update your online profile with any changes within 30 days.

Annual Registration Fee

The 2024 annual registration fee is $1,725. This is the sixth consecutive year we have not raised fees and instead have been able to accommodate inflationary increases through internal efficiencies, including the removal of various administrative service fees. Ontario’s fees remain among the lowest in Canada.

Suspension

If you fail to complete the online renewal form or submit the fee payment in the portal, you will receive a notice of intention to suspend your certificate of registration in 60 days.

If your certificate of registration is to be suspended, the Registrar will notify you by mail. Immediately upon suspension, your certificate of registration expires and your authority to practice medicine in Ontario ceases.

In addition:

  • We add a permanent notation of suspension to the physician’s record and public profile.
  • We circulate a list containing the names of all suspended physicians to Ontario hospitals.

If an expired physician wishes to resume practice in Ontario, they must submit an application for a new certificate of registration, pay all applicable fees, meet all registration requirements in force at the time of application, and be granted a new certificate by the College.
