This document is intended to assist physicians in understanding their legal obligations and limitations when treating a sexual and/or romantic partner, which are set out in the Health Professions Procedural Code (Code) and O.Reg. 260/18 under the Regulated Health Professions Act (RHPA) and in case law.
This document is intended to help physicians interpret their disclosure obligations as set out in the Disclosure of Harm policy and provide guidance around how these obligations may be effectively discharged.
Advice to the Profession: Procedures Standard
MRPs and/or supervisors must provide appropriate supervision to medical students, which is proportionate to the medical student’s level of training and experience.
Physicians must safeguard their clinical objectivity and professional independence when interacting with industry.
The content in this resource is based on the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario’s (CPSO)’s Human Rights in the Provision of Health Services policy ("Policy").
