Discipline

Discipline proceedings are conducted by the Ontario Physicians and Surgeons Discipline Tribunal (OPSDT). Visit the OPSDT website for more information, including its Rules of Procedure and Practice Directions, guides to the process and a list of members.

 

Executive

The Executive Committee serves as the decision-making body of the CPSO in between regular meetings of the Board. For more information, see section 9.1 of the CPSO By-laws.

Finance and Audit

The Finance and Audit Committee reviews the CPSO’s financial affairs, including its investment policy, control of assets, the auditor's report, and the CPSO's overall financial position. For more information, see section 9.3 of the CPSO By-laws.

Fitness to Practise

The Fitness to Practise Committee conducts hearings of allegations concerning a registrant's capacity to practise medicine. Elements that may impact a registrant’s capacity include a mental-health or substance-abuse issue.

Governance and Nominating

The Governance and Nominating Committee is responsible for implementing governance policy recommendations and overseeing the election process for the Board of Directors and the appointment process for the Executive Committee. For more information, see section 9.4 of the CPSO By-laws.

Inquiries, Complaints and Reports

The Inquiries, Complaints and Reports (ICR) Committee oversees all investigations into registrants' care and conduct, including public complaints investigations, Registrar's investigations, and inquiries into a registrant's capacity to practise. Patient Relations

The Patient Relations Committee oversees a program that includes measures for preventing or dealing with sexual abuse of patients by registrants. The CPSO also administers a fund for therapy and counselling for patients who have been sexually abused by a registrant. For more information, see section 8.5 of the CPSO By-laws.

Premises Inspection

The Premises Inspection Committee is responsible for administering and governing the CPSO's premises inspection program

The Registration Committee reviews the applications of physicians and physician assistants who wish to practice in Ontario. For more information see section  8.2 of the CPSO By-laws.
