Criminal Record Search

Criminal Record Search:  A completed criminal record search run against the Canadian Police Information Centre (CPIC) database or valid letter of clearance based on a CPIC check. See the “Guide to Acceptable Criminal Record Search” for more information about the types of criminal record searches acceptable to the College.


Any positive findings arising from a criminal record screen will be considered for further action by the College based on: the time period of the findings of guilt; the seriousness of the offence; and the relevance of the details of the offence to the practice of medicine.

  1. As a requirement of registration, all Ontario physicians must submit to a criminal record search. More specifically, all applicants for a certificate of registration (regardless of class) and physicians applying for a transfer in a certificate class must submit a completed criminal record search conducted no longer than six months before the date the certificate of registration is issued.
