Is an interventional pain premises required to have a recovery room?

The Physical Space Standard requires an OHP to have a functionally separate recovery area, where applicable and sets out expectations for the size of recovery areas for level 2 and 3 facilities. Depending on the procedures that are being performed, Medical Directors in interventional pain premises will have to consider whether a separate recovery area is needed to support patient safety and comfort.

Are there any additional standards that apply to interventional pain premises?

Where nerve blocks are being administered for chronic pain in OHPs, the Medical Director must ensure that care is provided in accordance with the OHP Standard Image Guidance When Administering Nerve Blocks for Adult Chronic Pain.
