Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada

Specialists whose hospital is participating in the CPSO Quality Improvement Partnership Program may receive CPD credits through Maintenance of Certification (MOC): A Professional Development Program of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada.

  1. How many CPD credits will I receive?
    1. Completion of Quality Improvement Tools

Physicians who are part of the QI Partnership program also complete two tools -- the ‘Practice Profile’ and ‘Self-Guided Chart Review’ -- to meet College requirements.

Physicians who receive feedback from a peer

      • Practice Profile: You are eligible to submit your hours under Section 3: Assessment: Practice Assessment for 3 credits per hour.
      • Self-guided Chart Review: You are eligible to submit your hours under Section 3: Assessment: Chart Audit and Feedback for 3 credits per hour.

Note that the hours you report include the time it took to complete the tool combined with the time spent receiving and reflecting on feedback.

If you do not receive feedback from a peer, you are eligible to submit your hours for each of the Quality Improvement Tools of the QI program under Section 2: Planned Learning: Personal Learning Project for 2 credits per hour.

    2. Completion of Quality Improvement Process

After completing the components of the QI process: Data/Measurement; Reflection; Facilitated Feedback; and the Action Plan/ Proposal you are eligible to submit your hours under Section 3: Assessment: Practice Assessment for 3 credits per hour provided you have engaged with the data, there is reflection process, and strategies for improvement are implemented.

Additional CPD as a result of Action Plan can be recorded under the appropriate Section(s) as completed (e.g. if you are prompted to engage in self-directed learning to address an area for improvement, you can claim that time under Section 2: Personal Learning Project (PLP) for 2 credits per hour).
