CPD Credits for Assessors and Physicians

The College of Family Physicians of Canada

Family physicians participating in a CPSO assessment program (e.g., peer assessment, investigation) may receive CPD credits through Mainpro+: Continuing Professional Development Program of the College of Family Physicians of Canada.

Assessors and assessed physicians:
CPSO members who participate in a CPSO assessment may be eligible to claim six Mainpro+ certified credits via the Practice Audit/Quality Assurance form. To do so, please log in to your Mainpro+ account, click “Enter a CPD Activity” and follow these steps:

  1. Select Assessment Category.
  2. Click Certified.
  3. Select Practice Audit/Quality Assurance Programs from the list.
  4. Answer all the questions on the form.
  5. Click submit.

Preparation time for the assessment may also be claimed as non-certified credits by selecting Practice audit from the Assessment/Non-certified drop down list.

You may be eligible to earn additional Mainpro+ certified credits by documenting your learning using a Linking Learning to Assessment or Linking Learning to Practice exercise. Each completed Linking Learning exercise is worth five certified credits. To learn more, visit the CFPC Linking Learning webpage.

Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada

Specialists participating in a CPSO assessment program (e.g., peer assessment, investigation) may receive CPD credits through the Maintenance of Certification (MOC) Program of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada.

Assessed Physicians:
By participating in a CPSO assessment program as a physician being assessed, you may document your CPD under Section 3: Assessment. Section 3 allows each member to obtain 3 credits per hour of activity.

If the assessment has resulted in your seeking more information or research, you may can claim this activity as Section 2: Personal Learning Project (2 credits per hour).

Assessors:
As an assessor participating in a CPSO assessment program, you may claim credits under Section 2: Peer Review (15 credits per year).
